A study conducted in the United States in March 2020 revealed that 36 percent of 18 to 29-year-olds currently subscribed to Amazon Prime Video, and 11 percent shared a password to an account, giving them access to the service without being subscribers themselves. Amazon Prime Video was most popular among those aged between 45 and 54 years, with 46 percent saying that they had a current subscription as of the date of survey.
According to a 2018 research by Lab42 conducted with US users, Amazon Prime Video customers skew older (55+) and are highly educated and, on average, more politically interested than Netflix and Hulu users (with a slew of diverse interests). Prime streamers were also more likely to find new content through recommendations. Of streamers of any of the 3 products, findings include that 42% of streamers are Gen X (35-54 years old), with 39% Millennials (between 18-34 years old); the majority are single (58%); 50% have kids, 50% have at least some college (the U.S. average is 39%) and 78% live in urban or suburban areas.
North America has the most Prime Video subscribers. In Brazil, according to the Brazilian Internet Management Committee (CGI.br), streaming services in the country grew by over 60% in the first half of 2020. This places the country as the sixth largest market in the world for movie and series streaming channels, with the biggest growth from Amazon Prime, which went from fourth to second place, with 23% of the Brazilian market, second only to Netflix. Brazil was the market where Prime Video grew the most in the world during the period evaluated. Since the launch of Amazon Prime in the country, in September 2019, sales in the Brazilian market have grown more than anywhere in the world.
