Through a user survey, I sought to understand some other users whom I didn’t get a chance to interview.
There were 18 respondents to the survey and I gathered some insights from it:
  1. Almost 60% of respondents hold a position with attributes directly involved with the use of UNILOG. All of them use the system every day.
  1. Most of the respondents' attributions involve monitoring the arrival and departure of trains, forming trains, performing manoeuvres, positioning, scheduling trains, etc.
  1. Over 40% of respondents have worked at VLI for 6-10 years, with over 20% at 4-5 years.
  1. Over 40% of respondents rated their satisfaction with the system as 3, right between dissatisfied and satisfied.

User feedback on the survey

“[There's] trouble remembering the codes to perform the tasks, we need something more intuitive to locate the feature we need to perform the task, there is no FAQ and we have to call support for small stuff, there is no notification of errors, and no auto-saving of the information we input on the system.”
"Outdated system. There's no integrations. It doesn't have a good user interface. It's not clear which way to go to perform the tasks.”

"[I suggest] Using a menu with the codes and features of the tools would make it much easier, as not everyone knows the codes and there is no way to search for it on UNILOG.”

Insights on user behaviour

  • As things they like the most about UNILOG, they listed: the tools it provides to do various tasks, system reliability, real-time tracking of all activities, tracking the arrival of trains.
  • As things they dislike the most about UNILOG, respondents listed: too much time spent in simple processes, they have to keep switching menus and pages to function, lack of system feedback on errors, the user interface.
